Why do drummers look funny while performing
I’ve been watching the weirdest drummer Vadrum, and i had this thought: why do drummers do funny expressions with their faces while performing on a drum? does it really feel good (like sex) or even better?
This question is only for drummers.

Hey, I’m a drummer.
I guess it depends on the drummer. Some drummers don’t do that- some, like me, just keep their faces emotionless, when playing to a crowd. I have a habit of staring to my left while i’m doing something complex. However, I know drummers who do what you’re talking about. I know this guy who scrunches up his face and makes the weirdest expressions when ever he plays. I used to do that, when I started. A lot of the time, it is because the drummer is focusing all of their mind on their playing, and the rest of their body is uncontrolled, especially their face.
This happens to me when I’m going as fast as I possibly can. My face goes all crazy, my back starts spasming, I bounce up and down on the seat- because I am focusing on fueling my hands and feet, and am letting the adrenaline loose to the rest of my body. That’s why I often try not to play that loud.

It’s kind of hard to explain why that happens…
I guess it’s kind of like when people are concentrating on something, and they stick their tongue out?
…or maybe it’s just cause it feels and sounds good, so the facial expression could be a sign of approval?
But yeah, as the guy who commented before me [Jake], it does depend on the drummer; some people don’t make weird expressions at all.
I guess it depends on the genre of music as well, like with metal, sometimes the rhythm is really fast, so, again, it’s a sign of concentrating – or they’re just in the moment.
People tell me I make the weirdest faces when I play, and I have no idea I’m doing it…
